Medical Massage Therapy

Medical massage Therapy or "Medically Necessary"  refers to special medical massage techniques used in the treatment of medical problems resulting from trauma to the body caused by work-related, automobile injuries, slips and falls or other types of accidents.  Some of these could include Rotator Cuff Injuries, Back Pain and Headaches, others could include general muscle
pain caused by repetitive motions, sprains/strains and sports/exercise related injury.  

Medical massage therapy is usually initiated upon referral from a chiropractic physician or your medical doctor, and may include advanced myofascial and deep tissue massage techniques, stretching, hydrotherapy hot/cold packs), and cupping therapy to the affected joints and muscles for the purpose of reducing pain, improving mobility and accelerating the healing process.  Medical Massage can be billed to your insurance when a prescription is written.

Your massage therapist will do a thorough intake evaluation and develop a plan with the most appropriate treatment for your injury. Your therapist will document your progress and work closely with your other health care providers to provide you with the best possible care.

If you live in the State of Oregon, have automobile insurance, and are injured in an auto accident or a car/bike accident, the cost of medical massage therapy is covered, regardless of who was at fault. Simply get a referral from your chiropractor or medical doctor and you can be treated by a massage therapist for your accident-related injuries.

Many types of injuries may result from an automobile accident including neck and back injuries, whiplash, and torn or strained tendons and muscles. These injuries can cause symptoms such as pain, restricted mobility, severe headaches, and insomnia and many other symptoms and sometimes onset of such symptoms may take a week to appear 

The process is simple: 

1.  Visit your primary care physician or chiropractic physician  for     an evaluation. By the way, chiropractic treatments are  also covered by your auto insurance policy. If you don't  have a chiropractor, I can recommend a number of highly-  experienced individuals. 
2.  Ask your physician or chiropractor to write you a  prescription for medical massage therapy. Combining 
   

             chiropractic manipulation with medical massage therapy can              reduce pain and speed the rate of healing.
     3.    Make an appointment to begin massage treatments. Be sure                to bring your massage RX Prescription completed by your                  primary care physician, MD or chiropractor along with the f                following insurance information to your first appointment.
              • Insurance Company name, address and phone number
              • Accident Claim Number
              • Name and phone number of the insurance adjuster for
                 your claim
              • Date of accident/injury

There are also situations not related to a work injury or an auto injury where medical massage therapy may be covered by an insurance provider.
